Please read our April 2012 Newsletter for complete PAA News and Updates.

Last day of official business at the PAA Gallery is April 20, 2012.

Any paintings on display at the Gallery can be picked up on
April 25th from 10am to 4pm.

PAA Meetings & Workshops

Our meetings will now be held on the fourth (4th) Saturday of the month, at 10 a.m., at the Santa Fe Depot. That means, no more Friday night meetings! Meetings and workshops, or other painting get-togethers, when they are scheduled, will both be on the same day. Much simpler!

Board Meetings
Board Meetings held first Wednesday of every month, 10 a.m. at the Art Center Gallery, 152 N. Main Street, Porterville. Members are welcome.

PAA Officers:

President: Joy Harvey
Vice President: Carol Byker
Treasurer: Candy Medina
Secretary: Peggy Shaffer

From the President
Dear Fellow Artists:

This is your newsletter editor, filling in for Joy, who has just returned from a family vacation. Daylight Savings Time has begun, and Spring has arrived as well. It seems like Winter never paid us a visit, though the recent rain and snow were definitely welcome. The local springtime art shows have begun. Springville’s Foothill Arts Show has just concluded (PAA’s members were well-represented as award-winners), and the others are lined up in the wings. We hope you have been painting on a regular basis and will be ready as each show comes along.

Unfortunately, the more time passes, the closer we get to having to vacate the gallery. The process of trying to find a new location to move to has been an emotional rollercoaster for many of us! Efforts are still ongoing, but progress has been made in finding a place to store our collection and the items in the gallery. You can read about that below.

At our March 24 general meeting, we will officially announce candidate’s for the election of Officers for the new term, and will take any nominations. The election itself will take place at April’s general meeting, which, out of necessity, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, April 4. More on that below, too.

Please come to both meetings, March 24 and April 4, if you can make it. See you there!

Search For New Space Continues

For about a month, now, we have had a committee in place, whose job it is to gather all the information it can on potential new locations for the PAA Gallery. Many locations have been brought to the commit-tee’s attention so far, and the search continues.

When we moved into our current space twelve years ago, we were very lucky to secure a lease for as little as $600 a month. The spaces that have been looked at so far have run the gamut between $500 at the low end, and $4500 per month at the high end. The average price seems to be about $1200 to $1800 per month, for a space that is smaller than our current location, and may be in less than optimal condition. Some of the sites are still being remodeled, and have been estimated at near $2500 per month, once they are completed. As with all the locations, we would have to install carpets and pads, and, in most instances, do addi-tional remodeling to make the sites suitable.

Joy Harvey, our president, has just returned from a family vacation (at this writing), and will be caught up with developments by the time you read this. At some point very soon, the board members will hopefully be able to tour as many of the potential loca-tions as possible, so that the committee’s information can be reviewed on the ground.

As mentioned above, an offer has been made for PAA to store its collection of donated paintings, and the furnishings in the gallery. The nice folks at the Bethesda Center on Main Street offered to let us hang our collection on their walls and store our gallery furniture in their spacious basement, should we not succeed in finding a new location right away. We thank them very much for their consideration.

Come to the March 24 meeting at the Santa Fe Depot, at 10 a.m., and we will try to answer any questions you may have. There is still plenty of time remaining in which to decide on a new location, and once we begin to move everything, we could use some help. Thanks for your patience.

March 24th Meeting - New Board Candidates!

Our March general meeting is Saturday, March 24, at 10 a.m., at the
Santa Fe Depot. At the meeting, we will discuss what has been going on in our search for a new location, and any other pertinent matters.

We will also ask for additional candidates for our elective officers’ positions, including President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Our other board positions are appointed positions, subject to approval by the Executive Board initially, and, then by the full board. Anyone present who would like to be considered for a board position, may be nominated at that time.

The current slate of candidates is:

President: Joy Harvey
Vice President: Carol Byker
Treasurer: Rebecca Ybarra
Secretary: Peggy Shaffer

At the April general meeting, which has been rescheduled from the 28th of the month, to Wednesday, April 4th, at 10 a.m., at the gallery, the election of officers will be held for the next two-year term.

Any last minute nominees for office will be taken, then, we will conduct the election. The newly elected officers will be installed at the Annual Meeting/Potluck Dinner, Friday, May 25, Santa Fe Depot, 6:30 p.m.
